I have been told and witnessed a report on T.V that our mighty government has decided they are going to professionally break the portage diversion and flood over 150 houses to save around what, 300? This in my opinion, is so very wrong. Can you imagine the lives people have built, knowing they are safe from a flood because of the diversion? I can't imagine building my living and having to be told that when i built it here to be safe it is now going to be demolished for the greater good of some other people, other places, other homes, with the possibility of no compensation! The specially placed flood has been told to take pressure away from Brandon and surrounding areas. The people in Brandon and the communities and farms surrounding Winnipeg live their lives each year knowing disaster will strike but stay. Does flooding the people who were promised dryness and worked with their lives to achieve the best vegetable crops, the best corn and the most wide sold wheat really get us anywhere but being shallow and inconsiderate? There was a man on CBC last night who stated that he is one of the largest vegetable farms in all of Manitoba, his lifetime of work will be flushed down the toilet within days and what will he get for it? Up to seven years rebuilding his crops to be as great as before, seven years of remaking his profit, two million dollars worth of damages and a polluted farmland that once fed his family. I am disgusted by our lack of guilt. !
^ Does this look fair to you?
